Steer-by-wire (SbW) describes the decoupling of the steering wheel and the wheels: mechanical connections are replaced by electronic signal transmission. This opens up new possibilities, but also creates new challenges, as the elimination of the steering column increases requirements for safety, redundancy, packaging and system integration.

With its patented steer-by-wire steering column mechanism, Willi Elbe positions itself as a specialized partner for SbW architectures - with intelligent packaging and modular actuator integration. The use of an aluminum steering spindle specifically compensates for the additional weight. At the same time, the design offers an adaptation range of up to 180 mm, making it extremely flexible for OEM-specific requirements.
